Abstract The purpose of this study is to understand the web buckling behavior of the thin-walled beams by experiment. The intestigation considers the cases of channel and lipped channel beam sections subjected to pure moment loading. The results of the experiment are shown including the efficiency of edge-stiffeners and the buckling behavior of web under pure moment loading. To investigate the reliability of the test, these results are compared with theoretical methods which are equivalent column method by Douty, used for AISI specification and the finite element method considered material and geometric nonlinearity. The results of the experiment agree with those of the finite element method, and somewhat disagree with those of equivalent column method.
