A Study on the Formation and Transformation of the Urban Tissue in the Residental Areas of Old Naju City |
Abstract |
The goal of this study to analyse what are the character of traditional urban settlement and the element of sustainable values which have been established in a long terms. The traditional old city, Naju area was surveyed in order to get the research goal, especially concerning the transformation of the lots and road system.The character of settlement in terms of growth and transformation in the Naju area are follows; 1)division into narrow plots confronting paths, 2)division itno smaller plots from original one by making private path, 3)repeating plot divition through public use of private path, 4)transformation of plot boundary by agreement among next door residents 5)unification of plots, 6)changing land use of the plot. The formation and transformation was an embriological process, and the whole growth and transformation was repeated and deepen, and settlement blocks were formed in natural order, illegular system, and closed path.Although the traditional settlement might be estimated as a prototype of pre-modernity and non-efficiency, that have many benefit of variety and natural form, psychological comfort and intimate experence in the settlement. |
