A Study on the Prediction of Basic Design Wind Speeds differed by Wind-Generating Meteorological Phenomena |
Abstract |
It is believed that wind-generating meteorological phenomena have to be carefully examined and considered in designing wind-sensitive structures and buildings located at the mixed wind climate regions, like Korea. This study classifies generaing pattern of strong winds characterized by different regions by investigating annual maximum wind speed data obtained from 72 meteorological stations in Korea for the period of 1972-1995. This study also investigates the probality distribution of the annual maximum wind speed of each location analyzed byconsidering the wind-generating meteorological phenomena, the mixed wind speeds and statistical tendency.Furthermore, the basic wind speeds of different regions were estimated by using the method of asymptotic distribution of the extremes (Gumbel Distribution). Basic on the result, the map of basic design wind speed for 100 years return period is proposed and compared with the data without consideration of wind-generating meteorological phenomena. It is suggested that the results of this study should be carefully adopted for desining wind-sensitive structures and buildings in Korea. |
