A Study on the Geometrical Composition of Carlo Scarpa`s : Focus on the Facade , Details and Ornaments |
Abstract |
The purpose of this paper is the study of the geometrical composition of C. Scarpa's architectural works on the focus of fa ade, details and ornaments. The results of study are as follows: 1. The formal characteristic of Scarpa's works shows not the single form of circle and square, but the geometrical forms of the identical property such as circle and circle, square and square, circle and square which is overlapped and compounded. This system of geometrical composition shows various kinds of diagrams. 2. The compositional elements of Scarpa's works have the diverse characteristics with a various kinds of materials. As the visual characteristics are showed on the surface of compositional elements, they obtain the visual effects with the contrast of each other that its surface is reflected by the characteristics of material and its texture. 3. For the language of visual form, the 5.5×5.5cm Motif shows as the transformed and repeated form, and it emphasizes the visual bounds such as the juncture of various form patterns and the divergence of composition. 4. Therefore, the analysis on the geometrical composition of Scarpa's architecture will be contributed to studying the characteristics of form in his architecture and to serving the basic data which can be applied to architectural design. |
