A Comparative Study on the Periodical Correspondence of Modern Model Housing : Focued on Weissenhofsiedlung and Breslausiedlung |
Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to compare the periodical correspondence in Weissenhofsiedlung and Bresalusiedlung which have been regarded as typical cases of Modern model housing. Both cases are investigated comprehensively and analyzed into a definite method of correspondence on periodical situations. The results of this study are as follows; ⑴ Modern model housing can be regarded as one of the most active means for the normalization of ideal residential environment; ⑵ Weissenhofsiedlung focused on the establishment of systematic methodology for mass production of housing and asthetic expression of Zeitgeist, while Breslausiedlung concentrated on the theme which can be named as a life in the communal society; ⑶ Both cases of Modern model housing may be evaluated as a failed architectural events because of the comparatively excessive scale and costs compared with the common level of periodical conditions at that time. In spite of the negative aspects, both cases accomplished positive role as a stylistic origin of the International Style. |
