A Study on the YiLiShiGong in ZhuZiDaQuan |
Abstract |
This paper aimed to study the architectural system(廟寢制) described in YiLiShiGong and the related debates afterwards. The system was analyzed in four types of classification such as building arrangement, architectural form in relation with social status, and the two types of ritual building (廟·寢). Especially, the type of ritual building was again divided into the system of roof and structure, of plan, of building entrance, and of exterior space. Firstly, The type of building arrangement is chracterized by how to locate the blocks for the live and the dead ones. The palace-housing of the live ones locates in the west, and the temple-housing of the dead ones locates in the east. Secondly, YiLiShiGong concludes that architectural plan is independent from social status. Only the form of roof varies according to social status. Thirdly, in briefly reviewing the type of ritual building, the roof and structure is framed by the system of five cross-beams(五架屋), and the plan is divided into two types of the symmetrical(左右房制) and the unsymmetrical (一房制). The exterior space is enclosed by the mass of main building, entrance, and the surrounding walls. Finally, the architectural meaning of this system can be summarized as 'the harmony' regulated by decorum. |
