Dance Theater : Interpretation of the Dynamics of Dance into Architectural Structure |
Abstract |
This study takes as its starting point the question of the possibility of a connection between Modern Dance (with its emphasis on the pure dynamics of bodily motion), and SpatiaI Dynamics of architectural space. The common ground between the two arts may be said to be the problem of gravity. The two share the central problem of structural expression in both submitting to and resisting the force of gravity The structural statics juxtaposed and conjoined to the spatial dynamics in the employment of curved - truss system supported on verticaI columns And the absolute motion of the sun and the resultant play of light and shadow has been taken into account in the design to contrast the natural movement of the audience. Moreover the theater with its immense void space is connected by a plaza to the rhythm and motion of the urban context |
