Inelastic Design Spectra of Weak and Moderate Earthquakes |
Abstract |
Most of present seismic design codes allow buildings and other types of structures to undergo inelastic behaviors due to economic reasons. In order to conduct reasonable seismic design, inelastic response spectra and inelastic design spectra are one of the most general tools in estimating the inelastic behavior of structures caused by earthquake load. In this paper, a study of inelastic design spectra was performed using l0l ground motion data of weak and moderate earthquakes recorded in several parts of the world. Such records were' used to consider the regional characteristics of Korean peninsula where a weak or moderate earthquake was anticipated to occur. To reflect the effects of soil conditions in spectra, the data were classified into three groups according to the soil conditions. Inelastic average spectra of each group were constructed, and the spectral characteristics were analyzed. Simple formulas to obtain inelastic design spectra were proposed for application to actual seismic design |
