Abstract Recently, strengthening of the structural members by adshesion of steel plate or fiber sheets is generally used. Particularly, the Carbon Fiber Sheet(CFS) is widely. Used. But the strengthening effect of the CFS is not clearly defined yet. Therefore, from this experiments, we investigated the flexural behaviour of simply supported RC beams which are strengthened with the CFS, under monotonic 1oads. In this study, six parameters are included, which are the number of the sheets, the length of the sheets, the anchor bolts, the area of the tensional reinforcing bars, the finish of the contact, and the pre-load According to the test results, the most important parameter is the length of the sheets. The failure mode of the RC beams and the effect of strengthening are greatly changed by the length of the sheets. Other parameters make effects on the strength of the RC beam in some degree.
