A Study on the Influence of Spatial Structure on Wayfinding |
Abstract |
This study intends to understand the influence generated by spatial structure over wayfinding. A field experiment was conducted in a large undergroud complex located in Seoul. The experiment consists of there steps, in which a series of different wayfinding tasks was given of subjects. The results show that people have enough information of the setting and the target they tend to move more efficiently by using short-cuts and well-connected spaces. It is therefore suggested that people use different wayfinding strategies according to the degree of information they have. Two kinds of such strategies are identified, one is gool-oriented strategy, the other is roaming strategy. |
