Abstract The education of an architect is comprised with theory knowledge and practice training. In Korea, it has been regulated to get four year academic education in university and five year practical training at architectural firms. And so, it is important for an intern in practices to experience the professional activities systematically and generally. Goals of this study are to investigate the current status and problems of practical training in Korea, and propose the guidances of practical training program. This paper is composed with the definition of architecture, architect as professional, education of an architect, practical training case studies, and finally status and proposal of practical training program in Korea. The training program proposed is recommended to be consisted with professional activities including construction documents and management as well as schematic design and design development, operated by intern himself, and supported by practicing architects and architectural associations.
