A Study on the Project and the Block of the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris during the 19th century |
Abstract |
This study considers the role played by the institutional block in the urban tissue and which represents the government power of a period which provides its characteristics. The evolution of the block of the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris is viewed from 1828 to 1875. This study is based upon three axes of analysis: first an observation of the urban context of the blocks to determine its situation in the city and the formation of institutions in the nineteenth century and defines the process of internal transformation. The second part evaluates the intervention of architects and projects in the Bibliothique Nationale in Paris. The last part depicts the projects and accomplishments, direct1y concerning the building units in the complex block. |
