Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of generation and propagation of pile hammer noise. The several factor such as equipment type weight of ram. Height of drop were surveyed in two construction fields. The distance attenuation was measured and noise reduction by the different hammer weight and dropping height were investigated in this fields. The advantages and disadvantages of six types of noise barrier were investigated. As a result, distance attenuation is about 5dB ~6dB by doubling the distance. Noise reduction level by hammer weight and height is small within 2dB. The noise level of different piling systems and sound transmission loss of six types of noise barriers were suggested
