An Experimental Study on Characteristics of Reinforced Concrete Beams with the Rectangular Opening |
Abstract |
This experimental study investigated mainly the load capacity and rectangular opening which the width varied with three times of the opening length. In order to compare the existing researches which the width of opening size were no less than two times o opening length, one standard reinforced concrete beam, six beams with reinforced steels and three beams with absence of reinforced steels around rectangular opening were tested in shear strength under two points loading. Here the width of opening site were three times of opening length and the length of opening changed from one to three times of the beam depth. Initial cracks of tensile sid, and around rectangular opening were observed for the len specimens. The results in this experimental study are as following I) In the design of reinforced concrete beams with the rectangular opening, the loss of 1oad capacity by shortage of concrete section from the rectangular opening should be restored by reinforcing. 2) Ir is desirable to consider concrete above the rectangular opening as beams and recommended t design as beams. |
