A Study on the Housing Needs by the Elderly Groups for Designing Affordability of the Elderly Housing |
Abstract |
There has been relatively little research on the designed housing in maintaining the elderly's independent functioning in existing housing, where over 83 percent of elderly population lives. Older persons vary enormously in health condition, housing settings and in their competencies for coping with different living environment. Therefore the understanding of housing needs of elderly according to the circumstances might enhance the level of the affordance. The importance of an appropriate 'fit' between a person and his housing may be a key factor in preventing withdrawal from an activities. The purpose of this study was to make out of the housing needs by the elderly groups for proposing an housing design which will inspire to independence of the elderly This studies show that the needs of safely · security equipments and the spacial needs differed significantly by the elderly groups, but the needs of conveniences facilities and the socio-psychological needs are not differed significantly by the elderly groups. The result of this study suggests that social service is as important as housing support to increase affordance of the elderly housing. |
