Abstract In order to reduce a length of buliding construction process and design cost, large size Design-Building companies to efficiently utilize standardized details for a simple and repetitive project like apartment building construction. However, it is usual case not to operate any regular, standardized detailing systems with respect to coding, detail descriptions, and drafting manuals among different engineering groups. The purpose of this study is to investigate the current condition of standardized detail systems in leading engineering firms(KNHC, Hyundai Industrial Development Corp., and Samwoo Architects & Engineers). The examination of these firms indicated that there existed a need for efficient management of standardized details in architectural engineering field, while other engineering parts did not establish a regular detail system; 1) KNHC did consistently maintain various kind of standardized details; 2) HIDC showed synthetic documentation system, integrating goneral drawings and details; and 3) Samwoo presented an efficient matrix combination system in coding details. Based upon these findings, it was suggested basic principles and manuals for an efficient management and utilization of standardized details.
