Numerical Study on the Brazier Effect of Layered Plates Subject to Pure Bending |
Abstract |
When an initially strait thin cylindrical shell is subjected to bending, there is a tendency for the cross section to flatten. The flattening causes decrease of bending stiffness and the flexural strength. Numerical analysis for the flattening effect had been presented by L.G. Brazier first in l927. The flattening effect is called Brazier effects. The purpose of the study presented in this paper is to investigate the Brazier effect on laminated plate members. For numerical analyses, a 3 layered simply supported plate composed of 3 1ayers is used. A numerical formulation developed for the three layered plate model and the numerical results are presented. For this study, approximation procedure is introduced to solve the nonlinear governing equation. |
