Title |
A Study on the Source of the Marseilles Block |
Abstract |
With regard to the source of the Marseilles Block it has been argued that it iufluenced from the Charles Fourier(1772-1837)'s Phalanstere, the Charterhouse of Ema, the Apartment of Moscow, and the Liner. However, these theories and thoughts are not adequate because many theorists like Peter Sereny, Francoise Choay and Stanislaus von Moos Originated the Marseilles Block from certain buildings Le Corbusier(1887-1965) designed and constructed. They focused upon the source of Marseilles Block without considering what Le Corbusier's way of thinking in his life was. Although the architect tries to represent all his thoughts into his works, it is very difficult to extract into the building. Thus, he/she tries to show by words what he/she cannot explain in each building he/she designed. It is quite true to Le Corbusier who accomplished lots of building designs and many written worts. The objective of this study is to identify the source of Marseilles Block through examining Le Corbusier's written works implied his thoughts rather than building designs. |
