Abstract |
When surveying the cultural heritage, preserving their original state is of primary importance, one must consider non-destructive method first. And when analyzing or modeling the stone masonry structures, one should know the stiffness of structural system. Dynamic characteristics of stone masonry structures depend on several factors such as coefficients of friction, contact conditions, and number of layers of bonding stones. So, one can estimate the stiffness and robustness of structural system by analysing the dynamic characteristics. This paper describes a method for estimation of spring constants of granite brick model by using the measurement of natural frequency technique. For this purpose, granite brick models of multi-layer were made and fundamental frequencies were measured as increasing of the number of layers. The spring constants of granite brick model obtained by using the natural frequencies decreased as increasing of number of layers. With these results, it may be assumed that the vibration modes of stone masonry structures are influenced by swaying and rocking. |
