Abstract In cementitious binders when used for cement concrete the requirements for properties of importance during early and later ages are different. Blast furnace slag cement based mortars though attain high strength than portland cement during later ages but possesses a relatively poor early age properties. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate and obtain by using stimulus agents with anhydrous gypsum, hydrate lime and limestone early high-strength blast furnace slag cement, and to explore for preliminary influence of stimulus agents on the early compressive strength and pore structure formation of blast furnace slag cement. Laboratory investigations on a series of such mixtures have revealed the possession of good early age properties and at the same time fairly comparable strength at later ages by using a proper amount of stimulus agents. In composite mortars there is a common practice to incorporate gypsum, hydrate lime and limestone along with blast furnace slag cement, whose presence improves upon the early compressive strength and tightens pore structure. Some of the results are reported in this paper.
