Abstract In friction type bolted connection, the slip coefficient and the initial clamping force are the major factors governing the slip load of a connection. The purpose of this study is to investigate the slip load, deformation and reduction of initial clamping force in friction type bolted joint clamping by F13T or F10T grade high strength bolt. For these purpose of researching, the tensile test was carried out in friction type bolted joint. And the parameter of this test is the condition of the faying surface, one is rusted faying surface and the others are the clean mill scale surface and shot blast surface. The results of test is that the capacity of friction type bolted joint clamping by F13T grade high strength bolt is more large than that of clamping by F10T grade high strength bolt with 37% of average.
