Abstract |
This study aims to explore an early stage of spatial design in concern with sectional concepts through protocol analyses. Sectional concepts are useful to construct the three dimensional images of architectural space. The method of this research is constituted of analyses of sectional sketches and concurrent record of verbal statements. The first analysis is about the cognitive process of designer's behavior and the second is about the protocol analysis of spatial concept operation. Sectional concepts related to vertical spatial forms are summarized as follow : 1) geometric configuration of vertical spaces; 2) the interaction between visual sights and users' circulation in relation with changes of floor levels; 3) vertical flows of lights, winds, heat, etc. inside of internal space; 4) measurements and coordination of dimensional aspects related to technical details. For the result of the protocol analyses of sectional concept development, this study describes the process and roles of sectional design concepts in vertical space design. |
