Abstract |
Universal Design (UD) has been one of the most influential changes opening new possibilities and approaches in the design disciplines. In this study, the dynamic and growing concept of UD is evaluated as it applies to design and application of the signage. This is accomplished through gathering of information on the current signages located in public environments and also through surveying visitors to the district hall on, whether consciously applying UD or simply the principles of UD, effectively implemented Universal Design in the construction of the sign system. In conclusion, the application of UD principles in publicly located sign systems was found to be relatively low. In the public area, the sign systems fulfilled their function, despite their unsystematic application and the poor level of asceticism for indoor environments. Ultimately, the concept of UD calls for designing sign systems which are able to satisfy persons of all ages and disabilities. |
