Abstract The purpose of this study is to propose method of predicting optimal interval of inspection for Condition-based Preventive Maintenance(CBM) using Monte Carlo method, in view of randomness and independency between failure occurrence and inspection. So, this study describes the probability process method of measuring the effect of Condition-based Preventive Maintenance on air-conditioning facilities' reliability and optimization of Condition-based Preventive Maintenance. A simulation model is presented to analyse Condition-based Preventive Maintenance through a fixed period maintenance inspections by maintenance personnel conducting to detect indications of failures to occur. Based on this simulation model, the effects of Condition-based Preventive Maintenance on units of air-conditioning facilities's reliability are quantitatively obtained, the MTBF of units under CBM action is suggested, and the basic characteristics of the Condition-based Preventive Maintenance are analyzed by sensitive analysis method. Also, as a result of study, the method to predict optimal intervals of inspection is suggested in order to increase reliability of units.
