Abstract In Korean housing, Anbang has been treated as the peculiar and important room which is a private space of mater bedroom and, at the same time, a common space as the family room or reception room. So, it has been a norm in apartment unit plan that Anbang has to be the largest room and has to be facing south.
But these days it is often reported that the function of Anbang as a common room has been weakened and it tends to be used as the master bedroom exclusively, and it has been tried to design the apartment unit plan in which Anbang is facing north, based on the idea that Anbang used only as master bedroom is not necessarily to be facing south.
The purpose of this study is to examine the user's satisfaction with the Anbang facing north, through the POE of the apartment unit plan in which Anbang is designed to be facing north. For this purpose, three unit plans with Anbang facing north have been evaluated with, for the comparison, other three unit plans with Anbang facing south.
