Abstract |
The Chosun society had been changed in many aspects by accepting Confucianism as a national religion. A great number of scholars had appeared and they organized their own culture especially in Yongnam district. Around 16th century, characteristics of Chosun society influenced by Confucianism appeared even in the architecture. There are so many factors that accomplish the architectural culture of the Chosun society. In this thesis we probe Toegye Yi Hwang(1501-1570) who was one of most eminent scholars of Neo Confucianism and he expressed his thought onto many houses and buildings. The meanings of this study on the course of completion of Tosanseodang are: even though it was merely the course of completion of architectural conception of Yi, it was formative period of architectural characteristics of Yongnam Sarim and it was an approach to prototypes of houses and buildings influenced by the world view of Sunbi in middle Chosun society. The purpose of this study is to analyze the architecture of Yi and wed probed his influences on Confucian architecture. Tosanseodang of Yi had been built for ages. Yi comprised his view of architecture during the course of building the Tosanseodang through Yangjinam, Hanseoam, Kyesangseodang. His Jangok became the one of prototoypes of Confucian architecture in middle Chosun society, and an example of upper class houses and Confucian architecture. |
