Abstract In cold weather concreting, the frost damage at early age and the low rate of strength development are main problems. In this study, several kinds of agents for enduring cold weather are used to prevent the concrete from frost damage at early age by accelerating cement hydration and lowering the freezing point of water in concrete. The concrete matrix are mixed with different W/C and different kinds of the agents for enduring cold weather. The properties of fresh concrete, freezing Temperature, setting time and strength are evaluated. From the experimental results, the admixtures of nitrogen compound show a better performance in developing the early-age strength of concrete under low temperature conditions, by decreasing freezing points and accelerating setting time.
