Title Users' Preference of High School Facilities : focusing on the atmosphere of school facilities and spatial usage patterns during recess

Abstract New types of educational facilities should be provided for a new educational policy from a teacher-oriented, closed, passive education toward a student-oriented, open, active education. The main purpose of the study is to suggest design guidelines for designing new types of high schools in Korea, based on the students' preference of school facilities. The research method which has been used in this study was questionnaires by both high school teachers and students. The analysis was made focusing on the preference of building types, atmosphere of major school facilities, preference of the degree of closedness and openness for school activities, break time activities and spatial usage patterns. The findings have been discussed making a comparison between results of the teachers' group and the students' group, between the female students' and the male students' groups.
