Abstract This study aims to investigate the plane type and structural characteristics of huts in the Bronze Age that were discovered in the Honam area. We also researched their interior facilities and the characteristics of the relics found there. We tried to identify the common properties inherent in the huts by analyzing the correlation with their Scale. The findings are as follows.
As for the characteristics of huts in the Bronze Age discovered in the Honam area, first, the orbicular-type huts were most commonly found among 72 huts. 37 orbicular-type huts (51.38%), 22 square-type huts (30.55%) and 13 rectangle-type huts (18.05%) were found. Second, as for the structure of a hut, the orbicular-type huts were mainly built in the double-pillar method (23 huts) including the hole-digging method and the semi-hole digging method. The square-type huts (22 huts) were mainly built in the hole-digging method without pillars (14 huts). The rectangle-type huts were built mainly in the method without colonnades. On the whole, the double-pillar method was most commonly applied.
As we analyzed the correlation with the size of a hut, we found a rule in its size in which the long diameter and the short diameter increased in certain proportions. The regression equation of each type is as follows.
The orbicular-type Y (short diameter) = 0.91x(long diameter) + 0.2021 (R2 = 0.9344),
The square-type Y (short side) = 0.8735x(long side) + 0.0413 (R2 = 0.8708),
The rectangle-type Y (short side) = 0.6541x(long side) + 0.0348 (R2 = 0.8937).
