Abstract |
This paper investigates ventilation characteristics and room airflow distributions in a workstation area by a personal air-conditioning system under heating and cooling conditions. Tracer gas experiments are performed to evaluate local supply index and room mean ventilation effectiveness, and PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) experiments are conducted to obtain velocity vectors in the workstation area. As a result, the local supply index in the workstation area can be improved by adjusting the diffuser angle of the PEM(Personal Environmental Module). Flow visualization results indicate that the horizontal warm supply air from PEM moves upward over the breathing zone because of buoyancy force for heating conditions, and vice versa for cooling conditions. The overall room ventilation effectiveness is found to be greater for cooling conditions compared to heating conditions. |
