Abstract |
Most of un-reinforced masonry(URM) buildings of Korea have many structural defects under a lateral load due to an earthquake acceleration. If an earthquake is occurred in Korea, existing URM buildings will be damaged severly. Therefore it may be necessary to be set up a seismic code and be suggested for reinforcing methods for existing URM buildings. In this paper, a typical model of an URM building in Korea is selected through a site investigation and a dynamic response of URM buildings is evaluated using an experimental approach. Dynamic tests were performed on two stories with a 1/2 reduced scale URM buildings using a shaking table. It was found that the pier rocking failure was a dominant mode for an URM buildings during a seismic excitation. And, a structural behavior after occurring cracks was stable. |
