Abstract Nowadays, the data management methodology for drawing information has been changed from the manual ways to the digital ways. However, the current exchanging and sharing of digital drawing information practice in construction industry comprises various problems: 1) the interoperability of data is incomplete, due to the different data structure of graphic entities between systems 2) the standard of drawing information is not reside, 3) the standard for the procedure of storing and archiving drawing information is not reside, and 4) an access to the shared information between systems is limited. The resolve these problems, the classification system, the drafting norm, and the information related to processes must be standardized. In addition, the development of standardize data format should be advanced and adopted in the construction practice before the afore-mentioned standardized processes to be applied for the CALS system. To resolve the above issues, a current drawing information sharing and exchanging statue in the construction industry has been investigated and a standardized data format using STEP(STandard for the Exchange of Product model) technology for drawing information has been suggested.
