Abstract Glass skyscraper project(1922) by Mies van der Rohe stands as one of the most symbolic statement in modern architecture. Through analysing his article(1922) in German text accompanied by charcoal drawing and photo montage, this study tries to show his consistent attachment to transparency in building design. While his Friedrichstraße competition entry(1921) was a monumental achievement in using plate glass in high-rise office building, it does not show his complete understanding of materialistic character of glass to get transparency. His glass skyscraper project can be assessed as the first architectural project revealing thorough understanding of glass in architectural design. Transparency which needs back light source was a key method for Mies to show the skeletal logic of how buildings are put together.
