| Abstract |
This study aims to discover indices and factors, which are concerned with forming amenity of residential area, based on residents' consciousness and to plan for amenity in urban areas by analysing their importance. Using the questionnaire survey, it was investigated the influence of sound in relation to amenity and examined the soundscape in detail to improve the sound amenity in Namwon city. As a result, the factors affecting the amenity of residential areas can be classified into eight categories: Convenience, Housing structure, Stability, Indoor environment, Sanitation, Natural environment, Culture/Welfare and Human relations. The impressions of residents regarding their surroundings consisted of five categories such as Comfortableness, Modernity, Healthy beauty, Natural beauty and Intimacy/Powerfulness. Listed in order of importance, the three factors which influenced the formation of amenity most were: Comfortableness, Natural beauty and Healthy beauty. A survey regarding the regional characteristics on soundscape concluded that the sounds that residents want to remove the most are traffic and construction noises and sounds that they want to preserve are traditional and natural sounds representing regional and artistic features. Considering this fact, succeeding the regional tradition and culture and preserving the natural environment are playing a major part in improving the amenity in residential environments. |
