Abstract In other to investigate the effects of the noise isolation according to different treatments in structural components, the impact noises which were generated by bang machine and tapping machine on the upper floor were measured at real suites of apartment. Noise isolation capacity was evaluated by analyzing each measurement in various types of noise isolation systems compared with the measurement in the standard suite. It was found that, in case of heavy impact noise, when there is noise isolation on wall only or on wall and floor (or ceiling), the floor impact noise reduced considerably. However, in case of light impact noise, noise isolation either on wall or floor was effective. Therefore, to reduce both heavy and light impact noises, it is necessary to combine the noise isolation system on floor, wall and ceiling as ideal construction method.
