Abstract The purpose of this study is to develope a collapse load analysis algorithm considering second-order effect. Direct Method approach is used to define element characteristics and analysis procedure. Two types of elements are used; beam and beam-column element. In Direct Method, two parameters are used for formulation of elements; internal parameter and transformed parameter. Using these parameters, a algorithm for collapse load analysis including second-order effect is developed and the accuracy and effectiveness are verified compared to some examples analyzed using traditional method. Not olny collapse mechanism and collapse load but also member forces and displacements of structure can be obtained through the proposed method.
