This study was to investigate the causal relationships among the perceptions of privacy and territoriality and residential satisfaction in dormitory rooms. The sample consisted of 180 students living in dormitory of Ulsan University. The purpose was accomplished using multiple regressions and path analysis. The following variables were shown to have significant effects on the perceptions of privacy and territoriality; the number of roommates, room marking, the level of personal space and intimacy with roommates. Residential satisfaction was significantly related to the number of roommates, the level of personal space, and the perceptions of privacy. The results of the analysis of causal model showed that independent variables including the number of roommates and the level of personal space had direct effects and indirect effects through privacy on residential satisfaction, and the residents perceiving privacy more positive tended to have higher residential satisfaction. |
