Abstract The purpose of this study on the Urban growth is reconsidering if Greenbelt areas, which have been set in Busan metropolitan city since 1971, have affected its growths. The other is to consider whether it has been set for being suited its purpose to prevent urban expansion disorderly and protect the environment.
In the study process, Cellular Automata are introduced to simulate the growth of Busan metropolitan city. Both fuzzy set conception and AHP are applied for the efficiency of spatial analysis. The land prices, population data and the other factors are used for making simulation exactly. The Urban growth is simulated, compared and analyzed with the data of urban areas from Landsat data on the assumption that Greenbelt areas haven't been set in Busan from 1972 till 1997.
We can figure out the result through this study that Kumjong-gu and Puk-gu, where greenbelt areas are included, have been on the decrease rather than other areas from Landsat data, such as Tongnae-gu and Haeundae-gu, have grown till 500 cell. We can also do it that Busan metropolitan areas have specific character in its growth, which shows that Busan has a tendency not to grow it indiscreetly due to the effect of topography with lots of mountains.
