Abstract This paper presents the choice categories for natural lighting methods, classified into lateral lighting, clerestory lighting and sky lighting, in the exhibition space of contemporary museums. The results of research can be summarized as follows;
1) Consideration for natural?cultural?historical contexts of museum site,
2) Personal architectural philosophy of the architect,
3) Capatibility of proper characteristics of each natural lighting method and architect's intention,
4) Specially in the case of sky lighting, the size and the shape of lighting system which effect the appearance of museum and spatial character of exhibition space.
In result, the category of selection for natural lighting methods should include the site condition of a museum, the architectural philosophy of architect, the characteristics of lighting method and the pre-established spatial character of exhibition space as well as the quantity and quality of natural light.
