Abstract |
The objective of this study is to investigate the performance of shear walls with structural sheathing under axial load. The load bearing shear walls lined with structural sheathing is usually affected by axial and lateral loads. However, the design of these wall frames does not consider these combined load effect. Therefore an experimental study was conducted to investigate the combined load effect in shear wall frames using a total of 4 full-scale wall frame tests. The tests included four kinds of axial load level. This paper presents the details of experimental study, the results, and analysis by proposed method of Hamada Nobuichi. The results of this study indicate that the combined load up to 40% of allowable axial load capacity improves the performance of shear walls, and test method without axial load or axial tie-up equipment tends toward low estimation of the shear capacity. |
