Abstract Recently we undergo radical changes of the house type in the residential area from a detached house of 2 stories to a apartment house unit in a private house and multi-family house of 4 or 5 stories. In consequence of this changes, the daylight condition becomes worse. But a slant line restriction for daylight cannot contribute to give a proper daylight condition. In this regard, this study analized and examined the relationship between the actual daylight condition and the effect of building set-back inevitably caused by architectural slant line. Consequently this study reveals that even in case of illegal balcony extention which is against a slant line law, a duration of daylight in a particular point is not effective from the set-back status itself and also suggest the proper size and shape of new lot through the 3 dimensional daylight analysis.
