Abstract Nowadays, considering the right to sunshine has raised as the important environmental issue, sunshine condition between buildings should be evaluated more scientifically and quantitatively to assure the comfortable residence. The purpose of this study is to improve the distance between buildings and boundary of the area which can be used to minimize the negative effect on sunlight environment of neighborhood area in zoning and analyze on the heating energy by sunlight environment of apartment house. This study has examined a transition of enforcement of architectural law since 1976. The current regulation based on the building height. Therefore, this study try to improve the current regulation of sunlight on buildings through analysing the sunlight through window as changing the distance and boundary of buildings. Each sunshine environmental factors that effect on buildings were simulated from estimating two parallel type models(liner-shaped, court-shaped) for sunshine analysis, and the analysis about amount of heating energy consumption of model apartment houses by direction and floor. The target building of analysis was 15th floor apartment house residential area in Seoul.
