Abstract |
Steel has been using as one of the most important structural material in construction market and the consumption of it is inclined to increase rapidly since the large and tall building was introduced. The main reason of the rapid increase of adoption of steel in the construction market mainly depends on the structural stability in cold condition. But steel happen to expose to fire condition the strength of steel will loose gradually and the structure will lead to collapse finally. In the U.K and the U.S.A use about 550℃ as the critical temperature of structural steel but our country has been used 350℃ for that of structural steel since the early 1970's. To clarify the performance of structural steel when it was exposed to high temperature like a standard fire test we conducted several fire testings with full scale of structural beam and column at FILK in Korea and LPC located in the U.K respectively. At that time our country didn't have the exact criteria for the decision of fire testing with load-bearing. So we use the way of ISO for load-bearing fire test. After fire testing we found out the critical temperature of structural beams and columns were various and depend on the criteria and 538℃ was more rational than 350℃ and safe margin as well. |
