Abstract |
This study aims at proposing a way of using virtual reality technology in building process. Architecture, in tradition, has been heavily dependent on visual communication using three dimensional objects. Computer technology provides the architects with sophisticated three dimensional digital models with the help of high performance modeling tools. VR adds interactivity and dynamism to the model, yet the use of this technology remains on the level of another static visualization. In order to exploit the power of VR in building industry, the VR model needs to be generated through semantic descriptions of buildings and related information, thus enabling the automatic process of building information throughout the building process. This research proposes a markup language model and its management framework using VRML and XML technologies. Intended for the development of domain specific VR applications in building industry, this paper provides a technology overview, examines the technical and conceptual issues to address, and describes how the components interact with others in the proposed framework. |
