Abstract The purpose of this study was to analyze the concept of space in Kimm Jong-soung's architecture, which has been originally developed on the basis of the space of Mies van der Rohe. We can categorize three concepts of space appeared in his architecture : the space with axiality and rising direction, centripetal space with additive exhibition room, universal space with skylight. These concepts of space are different from that of Mies van der rohe. While Mies' space has a neutral and non-hierarchic character, Kimm's space has axial and centripetal direction. The free-standing columns and skylight are used as important means to realize such a concept of space.
