Abstract |
This study aims to research in the type of boundary between man's and women's space in Korean traditional dwellings. The subject of study is ?-type houses. Especially, Ttuljip which spread around Kyung-bok area. The ?-type constituted a mainstream housing type for the middle and high class people of Chosun dynasty. The ?-type can be found mainly in Andong cultual area. The size of the house is in proportion to the development scheme of the overall shape, from square to rectangular shape. and the main pavilion is composed of Sarang-Che, An-Che, Hangrang. The typical spatial relation between An-Che and Sarang-Che is ㄴ+ㄱ type although many variations can be found. And by the aim of the separation and connection between man's and women's space, physical structures which have a meaning of boundary are built. For example, a fence, a wall closet, a extra wall and gate, a additional floor and so on. In conclusion, the Ttuljip shows a essence of technique to control a boundary structure in Korean traditional dwellings. |
