Abstract The purpose of this study is to analyze the space construction system of Rietveld's furniture applying structural nodes of three listels with quadrangular section in 1918~1924. This study found that the space construction system has developed in four different stages as follows. (1) The new way of space extensional construction frame is attempted through crossing-connection of three listels with quadrangular section. Without eliminating traditional closed construction system of furniture, such as enclosing and encasing, the space extensional construction frame of open line network is achieved. (2) The construction frame is constructed by removing several members of the construction system in the first step. Volume is detached, and the system is developed into liberated spatial system. (3) Traditional brown color is entirely eliminated, then the third step of the space-coincidence with modern color such as black and white is performed. (4) The construction system of crossing-connection of three listels with quadrangular section has combined circular, triangular, and rectangular geometric forms, and previous design language have utilized comprehensively.
