Abstract |
In recent years building floors have become larger and more spacious as a result of using the long span floor systems. This is contributed from the development of new design methods and high strength and light weight materials. However, as such long span floor systems may provide smaller amount of damping, and have longer period, they would be more vulnerable to the floor vibration. In Korea when floors are to be checked against the floor vibration, the provisions developed in foreign countries such as Japan, U.S. and Canada have been commonly used. However, provisions in each country have been developed based on human perception, so they may not be appliable to the floors in Korea.(e.q., flat plate slab in apartment building) Human perception may vary from country to country. Moreover, in Korea structural systems and floor systems are quite unique. Thus, this study attempts to evaluate the performance of floors in Korean residential buildings and proposed acceptance criteria for the floor vibration based on the human perception level of Korean people using the shaking table test. |
