Title Case Studies on the Rehabilitation of Residential Units in Deteriorated Apartments

Abstract This study was to survey on the renovation of residential units in deteriorated high-rise apartments built in Seoul during seventies, and then search for the rehabilitation characteristics in Seoul, focusing on the spacial structure transformation. 230 units located at four apartment sites, was surveyed by official reports for unit renovation, auxiliary interview and drawings. There were such renovations as changes maid room and utility to kitchen, composition for spaciousness around kitchen, dining and living room, living and diningroom extension to front balcony, finally bedroom enlargement and reduction of bedroom number, and periodical exchanges of finishes and panel heating pipes. So it was represented that residents in deteriorated units needed to renovate the malfunctioned maid room and utilities, composition for spaciousness, living and dining balcony inclusion to inner space, bedroom size and number fit for family, and periodical exchanges of finishes and materials. And trends in current apartments units are represented high in contemporary rehabilitation of deteriorated units.
