Abstract In this study, earthquake excitation test of coupled model structures with water tank was conducted to verify damping effect of high-rise building subjected to seismic loads. The test parameters were mass ratio of water to model structures, number of damping nets and aspect ratio of water tank. The test results were analyzed in terms of maximum response and RMS value.
As a result, maximum and RMS responses of coupled model structures with water tank shows lower value than that of model structure alone. Since a remarkable damping effect are observed on attenuation of the wavefront after maximum response, that can be also seen in terms of RMS responses rather than maximum responses. As the mass ratio, damping nets, and aspect ratio increase, the damping effect of the TLD is increased.
